Here’s a confession: the first time I visited the Acropolis, I was in a group of 35 people wearing matching headsets, shuffling behind a guide who was speed-walking through 2,500 years of history like she had a flight to catch. I learned almost nothing. I couldn’t hear half of what she said. And I spent more time trying not to trip over other tourists than actually looking at the Parthenon.
